Long Distance Moving Services
Long distance moves across the UK require a lot more preparation than the average local move. With far more logistical factors to take into consideration, a long distance move can pose a few additional problems to solve.

Why use White and Company?
When deciding on a removals company for your long distance move, it’s essential to consider both the location you’re moving to along with the area you’re leaving.
You should ideally opt for a provider that has a wide network of locations throughout the UK, ensuring they have a great knowledge of the area.
This will mean the company is able provide the best possible service wherever you are, knowing the best routes through the area and being able to adapt to any hold ups that arise.
A removals company with a variety of national locations will be able to oversee a smooth transition into your new home and be able to assist with storing any excess boxes and packaging materials used during your move in one of their nearby secure storage warehouses.

When’s the Best Time to Move?
Ideally, any planned long distance move should take place during the summer months for a number of reasons.
Firstly, if you have children, this will cause far less disruption to their education and schooling schedule.
It gives you plenty of time to find them a new school local to your new home where they can settle in from the beginning of the new term.
Secondly, the days are much longer during the summer, so you can get far more done during this time.
Odds are the weather will be much dryer and brighter, as no one wants to carry boxes or move heavy items in the wind, rain, sleet or snow!
Planning Your Journey
Before setting off, make sure to map out your journey well in advance of moving day.
Include plans to take plenty of rest stops at motorway service stations to recharge and refresh.
The AA recommends that drivers should take a 15 minute break every 2 hours, and not exceed 8 hours of driving in any one day.
So if your journey is from one end of the UK to the other, consider an overnight stay and book a suitable hotel.
This will help you and your family to get a good nights sleep before completing the second leg of your journey.
Travelling with Pets
If you’re taking pets along for the ride, don’t forget about their needs either!
Schedule in extra time for extended stops for food, water and toilet breaks.
Children also tend to require more toilet breaks than adults, so always compensate for longer breaks than you would normally expect if travelling by yourself.
Our Removals & Storage Services
Free Survey
A surveyor will conduct a free home survey to establish the precise volume of effects being transported. This involves observing your current home room-by-room, carefully noting items to be transported or exported, whilst recording all details via electronic tablet. Alternatively, you can conduct a video survey yourself.
Packing Service
Once you agree to proceed, we’ll set a moving date with you for our removals team and vehicles to arrive at your residence for the big day. Our fully trained removals team will export pack and wrap all items being shipped in special breathable bubble wrap and double-lined cardboard boxes, ensuring your prized possessions are suitably protected.
Secure Storage
White and Company owns and operates its own short and long term warehouse facilities strategically placed in 19 locations throughout the United Kingdom, providing secure, clean and dry containerised storage in personal dedicated storage containers. This ensures all your items are stored and protected from damage prior to despatch.
Overseas Shipping
Upon arrival at a local depot, all goods are transferred to the export warehouse to await loading onto a container. The container is booked onto the first available vessel destined to the closest port of entry to your final destination. Frequently Asked Questions
What do movers consider long distance?
In general, most removals companies typically consider a move exceeding 150 miles to be classified as a long-distance move.
How long does it take the average person to move house?
If a property sale goes smoothly, the process of moving house within a chain usually takes approximately 2-3 months. However, complications arising from long property chains can occasionally lead to chaos, and in some cases, this period may be extended up to 6 months. The time is takes to physically move your belongings from one property to another is very much case-specific, meaning it will really be dependent on where you are relocating to.
When should I start packing for a long distance move?
Unless you hire a professional packing service, it’s essential to ensure your belongings are adequately prepared for safe transport so that you’re ready for the moving truck on the scheduled day. We usually advise starting the preparation for a move approximately 7 to 8 weeks in advance.
How can I save money on a long distance move?
Reducing the number of possessions you bring with you can lead to cost savings during the long distance removals process by reducing the overall volume of items to be transported. There are a number of ways to achieve this including selling items online and donating to charity. Furthermore, entering a new home without unnecessary belongings accumulated over the years adds a refreshing and decluttered touch to your move.
Should I stay and help the movers?
While it might feel a little strange watching people work around you, particularly with your belongings, most long distance movers prefer that you stay out of their way. They would appreciate it a great deal more if you focussed on other moving-related tasks, allowing them to complete their job as efficiently as possible.
What room should I pack first when moving?
It’s advisable to start packing rooms such as the garage, outside shed, guest room, and basement (if you have one) first. Tackling these rooms first should be the least disruptive and will help to make packing more essential items easier later on. Additionally, we recommend against leaving the kitchen until last, as it’s a time-consuming room with a mix of both non-essential and essential items.
National Coverage
With branches and secure storage warehouses up and down the UK, we can help you move home wherever you're located. Whether you're moving a few miles or several hundred miles, our removals teams are ready to move you to any one of the following counties:
