Why Move to Worcestershire?
There are numerous reasons why the county of Worcestershire is so desirable to buyers.
The county is steeped in history, boasting miles of rolling countryside and winding waterways, making it a great place for family fun. The northeast of Worcestershire includes part of the industrial West Midlands but the rest of the county is largely rural.
Worcestershire is well-connected by motorway, rail and air and well-priced homes are available across the region. Worcestershire is a non-metropolitan county in the West Midlands region of England.
The county offers inspirational arts and culture as well as some fantastic locally sourced food and drink served in abundance across the county. Bordered by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and within touching distance of Birmingham, this county has plenty of pulling power.
The region has some very attractive towns and cities within its borders such as the historical cathedral city of Worcester, the Spa towns of Droitwich and Malvern and the market towns of Evesham and Kidderminster; each is equally sought after.
The county’s appeal is reflected in its modest property prices. Based on 2056 homes for sale, the average house price for Worcestershire is currently £299,613.
For those who enjoy the countryside, Worcestershire has a huge swathe of open green space to discover. The western border with Herefordshire includes a stretch along the top of the Malvern Hills which dominate the region.
At the southern border with Gloucestershire and Worcestershire meet at the northern edge of the Cotswolds, over 787 miles of protected landscape, chosen as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Plus, two major rivers flow through the county too, the Severn and the Avon.
With great travel, links, lots to see and do to suit all tastes and budgets and so many stunning locations, Worcestershire has a multitude of positives if you are thinking of relocating here.
Worcestershire Schools & Education
Thinking about where the best schools are situated will be uppermost in most parents’ minds when planning a relocation.
Worcestershire has some fantastic options. The county has a comprehensive school system.
State schools in Worcester, the Wyre Forest District, and the Malvern Hills District are two-tier primary schools and secondary schools whilst Redditch and Bromsgrove have a three-tier system of first, middle and high schools.
Some schools in the county supply Sixth-form education including Worcester Sixth Form College and Trinity High School and Sixth Form Centre, Redditch.
A range of vocational colleges offers GCSE and A-level courses and adult education, such as South Worcestershire College, and an agricultural campus of Warwickshire College in Pershore.
There is also the University of Worcester, which is in the city itself and is home to the National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit and five other national research centres
Working in Worcestershire
During the latter half of the 20th century, fruit farming and the cultivation of hops were traditional agricultural activities in much of the county. Though now agriculture has largely declined, the exception is in the southern area of the county around the Vale of Evesham, where orchards are still worked on a commercial scale.
The most famous of the county’s exports is Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce, still a firm favourite today.
Unfortunately, following the onset of the recent Covid pandemic, many of our counties have struggled economically and Worcestershire is no different. The good news is that things are now starting to get back to normal and Worcestershire’s economy is showing signs of flourishing again.
A number of cornerstone sectors have been and still are central to the local economy of the county, providing large volumes of jobs. The sectors of business administration and professional services; construction; and health and care are vital to the region.
Worcestershire businesses are working hard to improve other sectors such as advanced manufacturing; cyber security, IT and defence; and horti/agricultural technologies.
It is hoped that these industries will in the future, provide employment as they expand and grow.
Worcestershire County Council has earmarked core economic priorities set out in its “Corporate Plan”. The plan pledges to deliver more highly skilled jobs and support further business expansion in the county from now up until 2030.
