    Why Move to Wimborne Minster?

Surrounded on three sides by quiet Dorset countryside, Wimborne Minster (or just Wimborne) is one of the county’s beautiful market towns which has managed by modern standards, to remain unchanged in so many ways.

Situated at the confluence of the River Stour and River Allen, 5 miles north of Poole, on the Dorset Heaths Wimborne offers culture, tradition, and rustic countryside in bucket loads. The famous Wimborne Minster along with its mottled brown towers is the focal point of the town and has been for hundreds of years. Famed for its chained library and the tomb of King Ethelred, the brother of Alfred the Great.

Wimborne’s traditional square and High Street provide an array of local shops, high street names including Waitrose, together with a number of traditional and modern cafes, restaurants, and inns. With a population of around 6000, it is a peaceful slow-paced lifestyle for those who reside here and with the town having a no-nonsense restriction with regards to development it looks likely to stay that way.

Many well-known figures have lived in the town. Thomas Hardy novelist and poet and Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web have both called Wimborne home.
Although Wimborne may come across as a sleepy, quiet place it has the benefit of being served by excellent road connections. Nearby is the busy A31 which offers access to the M27 and M3 making The New Forest, Ringwood, Southampton and Bournemouth and Poole all well within easy reach.

Mainline train stations to London Waterloo can be found at Poole and Bournemouth.
There is no doubt that this Dorset gem would make a wonderful location to live for all ages and a beautiful place to call home.

    Wimborne Minster Schools & Education

The town is known for having some particularly good schools, adding further to its attraction.

All primaries are either “good” or “outstanding” according to Ofsted’s latest reports.
At the highly regarded Great Bowden Academy, Ofsted reported “Pupils make outstanding progress and reach extremely high standards in reading, writing and mathematics.

Whist outstanding teaching means that pupils make extremely rapid progress from Years 1 to 6”. The closest secondary is Welland Park Academy. Pupils attending have gained above average exam results when compared to the rest of the County.

There are four general further education colleges operating in Leicestershire, Leicester College, Loughborough College, South Leicestershire College and Stephenson College. All offer various vocational courses as well as apprenticeships and some academic courses. However, the closest to Wimborne Minster is Leicester College.

Brooksby Melton College provides apprenticeships and further education training courses in animal care, countryside, equine, fisheries, and land-based service engineering, at their Brooksby campus.
