Why Move to Weybridge?
Location is key in all aspects of relocation and the affluent town of Weybridge offers just that. A commuter town in Surrey, Weybridge is ideal for those who want to stay within close reach of London (20 miles) and live a quieter lifestyle not far from the bright lights of London. Living in Weybridge also means you get easy links to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
The area has been favoured by the wealthy for hundreds of years. During the 19th century, successful businessmen purchased their country retreats here. The town was evidently fit for royalty too. In 1538 Henry VIII acquired a house at Oatlands in Weybridge for Anne of Cleves. It was rebuilt as a grand Tudor palace, and it was where he married Catherine Howard in 1540.
Today Weybridge is, of course, famous for Brooklands, the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. The local museum is the place to go to find out more about this fascinating aspect of the town. Weybridge is also known for its high proportion of billionaires and multi-million-pound properties.
However, it also appeals to young professionals and families looking to up-size, and its proximity to central London greatly enhances its attraction. Many well-known celebrities live in the area as the secluded wooded estates with high-security walls hide a host of secret billionaires’ homes away from prying eyes. Famous names such as Ringo Starr, Gilbert O’Sullivan, Engelbert Humperdinck, Cliff Richard, and Dragon’s Den panellist Theo Paphitis live or have lived here at some point in the past.
Locals can enjoy shops and restaurants which are of the upmarket variety with plenty of boutiques and the obligatory Waitrose on the high street. Whilst Lovers of the outdoors can horse ride or cycle in the Green Belt countryside that envelops the town. The River Wey runs through Weybridge and offers its residents a pleasant riverside setting where you can enjoy quiet walks or hire a canal boat and explore the town from a different angle.
With motorsport history, scenic riverside walks, café culture and classy pubs on the doorstep, Weybridge is a highly prized place to live.
