Why Move to Waterlooville?
Coast on one side and country on the other, the market town of Waterlooville sits in the busy Borough of Havant within the green county of Hampshire. Approximately 2 miles from the City of Portsmouth, once forming part of the great forest of Bere, Waterlooville has become the largest town in the borough.
Historically, it is reputed that Waterlooville’s name derived from the town pub named Heroes of Waterloo because, on its opening day, in 1815, soldiers who had just disembarked at Portsmouth, returning from the Battle of Waterloo, decided to stop there and celebrate their victory.
Early in the 1800’s, what was once just a handful of buildings alongside the old London to Portsmouth Road became Waterloo (and later Waterlooville). Today, this fast-growing district is home to around 65,000 providing them with a good range of amenities for a town of this size whilst its close proximity to good travel links results in access to other larger locations when required.
Scattered with parks, playgrounds, and pockets of woodland. One such oasis of greenery is Queen’s Enclosure on Park Road – a remnant of the Forest of Bere, there is ample opportunity to enjoy Waterlooville’s green spaces.
Waterlooville, like so many of our towns has been going through a series of upgrades.
Relatively recently in 2012, almost £1m was spent on improving amenities and some of the tired centre’s old buildings have been redeveloped into prominent residential and commercial buildings.
The local council has further plans for enhancing Waterlooville’s reputation as a place for leisure, sport and entertainment well into the future to the benefit of both businesses and local residents.
Waterlooville Schools & Education
The town has around 11 local primary schools with several more expected over the coming few years. The “outstanding” Horndean Infant School and Warren Park Primary School are very popular choices for younger children.
Five secondaries serve the region with the Cowplain School, Prospect School and Oaklands Catholic School all having been rated as “good” by Ofsted.
Older students have plenty of choice when it comes to college however, South Downs College is a great option.
The College provision includes nearly 40 A Level subjects across the three campuses as well as vocational courses including T Levels (from September 2020), UAL and BTEC qualifications and Apprenticeships delivered in partnership with leading local and national businesses.
The college has just under 7,500 students, with nearly 4,200 of these being full-time students, and 380 Apprentices.
