The town quickly developed into a busy holiday resort and although its popularity waned in the 1980s and 90s, it is making somewhat of a comeback. Today much has been done to rejuvenate the town and its “Tern Project”, has seen the redesign and reconstruction of its Promenade.
The Bay is an excellent place for outdoor activities. Morecambe Bay has some of the most varied fishing in all of Britain and is perhaps most famous for Morecambe Bay Potted Shrimps, which are ‘By appointment to Her Majesty the Queen.’
The Arndale Centre is Morecambe’s only covered shopping destination, offering everyday retailing and the towns two main retail parks are Central Drive and Lancaster Retail Park these give residents more choice and are home to larger stores.
