Mildenhall is a market town steeped in history with historical links to the military. The town has a unique demographic and enjoys the highest concentration of American residents in the country, with 18% of residents born in the US, owing to the nearby Air Force base.
One of Mildenhall’s greatest claims to fame however is the finding in 1943 of the Mildenhall Treasure, a surviving collection of Roman silversmith work, a tale which was later retold by none other than esteemed children’s Author, Roald Dahl.

Things to Do in Mildenhall
Although relatively small, the town is surrounded by some beautiful countryside and forests which offer pleasant scenery and nature walks. St Mary’s Mildenhall is a large and impressive Grade 1 listed town centre church of historical interest and is a lovely way to spend an hour or so soaking up the peaceful atmosphere and learning about the church’s history.
The pretty river Lark which flows through the town offers a range of things to do from fishing and canoeing to pleasurable riverside walks.
Jubilee Fields is a public park which covers an area of 19 acres and is located at a convenient spot close to the centre of the town and situated on the banks of the river Lark. The park has an outdoor gym, a basketball court and opportunities for fishing.
