With a population of around 70,000, Maidenhead is a large market town in Berkshire, on the winding south-western banks of the River Thames.
During Edwardian period, the popular waterfront area made Maidenhead a trendy resort town.
Today, the town’s major asset is its connectivity, only 20 minutes from Paddington on a fast train and being one of the stops on the much-anticipated Crossrail Elizabeth line will only serve to solidify what is already a major commuter hub.
Once rather overlooked, Maidenhead has been given a new lease of life with exciting new developments which promise to spark a revival.
Recent proposals for a huge town centre development have now been given the green light, combined with the impending arrival of Crossrail means it’s no wonder house prices are on the up. Maidenhead is certainly an attractive option for both investors and those looking to move out of London.
Foodies are well catered for as the area is, or has been, home to no fewer than seven culinary Michelin star restaurants such as Roux at Skindles, The Hinds Head and Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck, all located just five minutes away in the village of Bray.
Maidenhead itself has its share of great restaurants too and one of the best is the Italian restaurant Palmieris. A long-established family run Italian cafe near Maidenhead town centre.

Maidenhead Schools & Education
You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to good schools in Maidenhead. The town offers parents various successful primary schools with Ofsted reporting that St Mary’s Catholic, Courthouse and Oldfield all having many “outstanding” features.
Under two miles from the town centre and among the best of the secondaries is the “outstanding” Newlands Girls School. There are also six other secondary schools nearby that have been rated as “good” following their most recent inspections.
Children in the area can take the 11-plus to gain a place at one or two of three local Buckinghamshire grammar schools depending on where they live. These are Burnham in Slough, Beaconsfield High in Beaconsfield and Sir William Borlase’s in Marlow.
There is also a choice of private schools in the area, some of which include; Claires Court School, Al-Madani Independent Grammar School and The Jam Academy.
The town only has one college the Berkshire College of Agriculture. Most students entering college level education travel to other various establishments in the area, including the Windsor Forest Colleges Group in both Windsor (Berkshire) and Slough as well as The Henley College in Oxfordshire and Reading College (Berkshire).
Things to do in Maidenhead
Popular things to do in the town include making the most of the excellent sports centre. The Magnet Leisure Centre offers a fantastic range of facilities including a 135-station gym, 8 lane competition swimming pool, 10 court sports hall, and a brand new spin studio.
A short walk from Maidenhead’s town centre is Boulter’s Lock and Boulter’s Island with its beautiful gardens, bird aviary and café making this a popular destination with families.
Another popular activity has to be riverside walks along the Thames. The popular scenic walk along the riverside path leads to the very attractive town of Cookham, where you can stop for lunch or just for a drink beside the river.
Maidenhead has a number of small green flag parks, while the National Trust owns much of the woodland and commons around Pinkneys Green, each great place to visit all year round.
If you enjoy golf, The Maidenhead Golf Club has an 18-hole golf course. Established in 1896, the course is set in rolling parkland with tree lined fairways, the perfect spot to soak up the peace and tranquillity of a round of golf in this picturesque part of Berkshire.
Located nearby is the bustling town of Windsor. The home of Windsor Castle, a visit to the area would not be complete without visiting the most royal of Windsor’s attractions. You will also find Legoland and Windsor Royal Racecourse a great alternative.
When you tire of all that Maidenhead can offer in the way of leisure, you can hop on a train and be in the centre of London where there are countless attractions waiting to be discovered.
