Why Move to Lincolnshire?
Lincolnshire is vast and incorporates a long coastline, it is the second biggest county in the UK next to North Yorkshire. Modern Lincolnshire, boasting rolling Wolds in the north, a 30-mile stretch of golden sands on the east coast, and the flat agricultural Fenlands of the south makes a wonderful place to take up residence.
Every county is known for something, and Lincolnshire’s can lay claim to fame on a number of levels. Its rich silt soil means virtually anything can grow here. It is famed for several kinds of cheese, stuffed chine (a traditional dish of salt pork filled with herbs,) Lincolnshire sausages, and plumb loaf.
In this county, you get the best of all worlds, areas of outstanding natural beauty, coastal towns, and quaint villages along with vibrant city living. You can be as rural or not as you please in Lincolnshire. Plenty of student’s flock to the county to study at one of its two universities, the University of Lincoln, and Bishop Grosseteste University. But the county appeals to everyone, old and young alike.
From the lively family-friendly amusements of its coastal resorts to quiet country walks and pursuits for those who prefer something a little more sedate. If you can call it a downside (many think it is a positive) but, the county is one of the few in the UK without a motorway.
The road network is dominated by single carriageways, A-roads, and local roads or B-roads. Getting around is not hard, just a little slower. Lincolnshire people are among the friendliest you will ever encounter, plus they love a festival, two of the most well attended are:
The SO Festival is an international Street Art festival that takes place in August, offering a variety of outdoor entertainment and takes place in Mablethorpe and Skegness.
The Lincoln Sausage Festival is held within the grounds of Lincoln Castle in October each year and sees visitors tucking into more than 30,000 individual sausages on the day!
Working in Lincolnshire
There are many reasons why people choose to relocate to Lincolnshire, one of the most popular reasons is for work.
Searching for a job is made that much easier as the county enjoys a thriving economy and high levels of employment.
Lincolnshire has long been a primarily agricultural area, and it continues to grow large amounts of wheat, barley, sugar beet, and oilseed rape.
Notable businesses based in Lincolnshire include the Lincs FM Group, Young’s Seafood, Openfield, and the Lincolnshire Co-operative.
Other areas where there is plenty of work is within the Health & Care sector. Currently, around 24,000 workers are contributing over £315 million per year to the county’s economy.
Manufacturing, Ports & Logistics, Low Carbon Initiatives are all areas where there those with the relevant skills could find a job.
Tourism also plays a huge part in the local economy. Anyone with experience related to keeping the massive £1 billion visitor economy turning is welcome. This area of industry employs as many as 40,000 people over a huge range of jobs, from catering to project management.
With the city of Lincoln and the large town of Grantham easily commutable from most areas of Lincolnshire, you should land a job in no time when you move to this dynamic county.
Lincolnshire Schools & Education
The deciding factor for many who relocate is education. Parents these days opt to live as close as possible to schools that have been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted.
There is certainly no shortage of very reputable state and private schools which combined, service the whole of the county.
Lincolnshire is one of the few counties within the UK that still uses the eleven-plus to decide who may attend grammar school, in common with Buckinghamshire and Kent.
There are hundreds of schools in the county with 85% of them being either “outstanding” or “good” reports Ofsted.
If your child needs special schooling, Lincolnshire has 15 schools specifically for children with a range of disabilities.
Independent education is widely available and provided by around 25 private schools.
For the 16-18-year-olds, six further education colleges serve the county with some also providing a number of higher education courses as well.
Two universities service the county, Bishop Grosseteste University, has around 2,300 full-time students enrolled on a variety of programmes and courses.
Lincoln University can trace its origins back to 1861. A popular Uni ranked 43rd in the UK by The Times, 42nd by Complete, and 17th by The Guardian in 2020 rankings. Across all ages, education provision in Lincolnshire will not disappoint.
Things to do in Lincolnshire
Like most of the UK’s counties, Lincolnshire is awash with attractions for all ages.

Lincolnshire Property
As Lincolnshire covers such a huge area, prospective residents will have their work cut out for them determining exactly where they want to “put down roots”.
Faced with so many areas where do you start? This is just a short guide to some of the county’s most popular locations, but it may help a little.
When it comes to the best coastal areas, Skegness is one of the top Seaside Holiday destinations in the UK.
From Pleasure Beach to Fantasy Island, to the Natureland Seal Sanctuary, there’s just so much to see and do in Skegness. Ideal for retirees and families. On average you will pay £195,117 for a home here.
Another great coastal location is Sutton-on-Sea. This town is packed with period homes and has access to stunning Blue Flag sandy beaches.
An unspoilt location which again will especially appeal to families or to those who are lucky enough to work from home and don’t need to commute. A home here costs on average £214,146.
For the top rural areas in Lincolnshire, anywhere on the edge of the beautiful Wolds will do.
In the past, Louth was named ‘Britain’s Favourite market town’ by the BBC’s Countryfile.
A beautiful Georgian market town is a gastro delight for ‘foodies”. Suitable for all, but this town lays very close to the main A16, so connections are pretty good. You need to budget on average £242,186.
For urban locations, Lincoln is top of the pile. The city has plenty of great neighbourhoods to choose from, many of which are close to some of Lincolns state grammar schools.
As you would expect, living in central Lincoln is going to be where property prices get a little pricier but even so, there are still some reasonable homes for sale currently such as Lincolns inner-city terraces, many of which have been updated and modernised and cost around £90,000.
Uphill is the most sought-after and expensive area of the city this is a very in-demand neighbourhood where homes often sell for well over £900,000.
Canwick, Nettleham, North Hykeham and Waddington all sit well within a quick journey into Lincoln and offer residents a good work-life balance near to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Homes in these locations start from £220.000.
Regardless of where you find yourself searching for a home, you are sure to benefit from the counties very reasonably priced property options.
