Why Move to Ilkley?
Situated in the Wharfe Valley, and once a booming spa town like Harrogate, Ilkley has a rich history but offers a quieter lifestyle than its busy West Yorkshire neighbour.
The town centre is characterised by Victorian architecture, wide streets and floral displays and is one of the jewels of the Yorkshire Dales.
Historically, Ilkley was sought out by wealthier people from miles around who wanted to sample the healing benefits of its pure moorland waters.
Within the travel-to-work radius of Leeds and Bradford, Ilkley is around 18 miles from Leeds and Bradford is 15 miles by road. The local railway network connection offers about 35 trains to each destination per day direct from Ilkley railway station.
Amenities more than provide enough for resident’s day to day requirements. Of particular note is Lishman’s of Ilkley, an award-winning butcher shop whose owner, David Lishman, became one of Rick Stein’s superheroes.
Ilkley is also home to the Michelin-starred Box Tree restaurant where Marco-Pierre White trained. Opened in 1962, it is set in two charming sandstone cottages and makes for a very special evening.
Ilkley boasts a wide range of sporting clubs, including Ilkley Tennis and Squash Club – home to the Ilkley International Tennis Festival, two golf courses, rugby club, and a swimming pool with one of the country’s last remaining art deco, open-air lidos.
Green spaces in the nearby area include the smaller Ilkley Moors and of course the world-renowned Yorkshire Dales National Park which encompasses thousands of square miles of moors, valleys, hills and villages.
