Why Move to High Wycombe?
Situated in the county of Buckinghamshire, High Wycombe is a combination of an industrial and market town and is the second largest town in the county. It has evolved from the wool and furniture industries upon which it was founded in order to embrace modern industry.
Laying just outside of the M25 it is a top spot for many people making the daily commute to London, just under half an hour by train. Pretty villages, accessibility, half-timbered brick cottages, the beauty and majesty of the nearby Chilterns all make it an ideal location.
Blessed with plenty of beautiful greenery, the town stretches along the Wye Valley from West Wycombe in the West to Loudwater and Wooburn in the East. The surrounding countryside is so picturesque it often features in films and TV dramas, such as the BBC’s Little Dorrit and Vicar of Dibley.
With plenty of things to do, Wycombe’s shopping opportunities have expanded greatly in recent years, with the opening of the Eden scheme in the middle of town.
Eden also includes a 12-screen cinema, bowling alley and a good selection of restaurants. The popular Swan Theatre attracts celebrity acts and pre-London runs.
Similar to many of the towns surrounding our capital, property in Wycombe is much more attainable for ordinary people as homes do not come with London’s expensive price tags, yet another reason to consider this busy but attractive town when relocating.
High Wycombe Schools & Education
Moving to a new area means that education for families with school age children will be a primary concern. Rest assured, High Wycombe offers a variety of schools with excellent reputations. Home to 16 primaries, 8 secondaries and several private institutions means that there is a diverse choice to pick from.
Of the seven closest schools situated near the centre of the town, six have been classed as “good” by Ofsted.
For secondaries, Wycome High School has been rated “outstanding” following its last Ofsted inspection whilst there are several other very good secondaries nearby including St Michael’s Catholic School and The Highcrest Academy.
Private schools include Wycombe High and Wycombe Abbey public school for girls for girls, Godstowe Preparatory School and Pipers Corner School.
Amersham & Wycombe College is a further education college located at Flackwell Heath, with campuses also at Chesham and Amersham.
High Wycombe is also home to the main campus of Buckinghamshire New University.
