Why Move to Faringdon?
Faringdon (which means fern covered hill) is a historic market town in the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire.
It sits in an idyllic area on the edges of the beautiful Cotswolds midway between Oxford and Swindon.
The town was granted its weekly market in 1218, and as a result came to be called Chipping Faringdon. The well attended weekly outdoor market is still held each Tuesday.
Built in 1935 by Lord Berners, Faringdon is famed for its Folly Tower. The 100ft tall tower sits on Folly Hill, within a charming 4-acre, area of woodland.
Another famous landmark in the area is the White Horse of Uffington that gives its name to the Vale.
The White Horse is a mysterious figure carved into the chalk hillside above Uffington. Believed to have been built in 1400 BC, it is a popular visitor attraction.
Being relatively small, the town has more of a village feel to it. Whilst local amenities are adequate, convenient road links mean you can be in Oxford or Swindon within 30 minutes which is where many residents commute to for work.
Although there is history on every corner of the town, modern Faringdon boasts a healthy range of economic activity from light industry to retail and is growing quickly as new homes are constructed.
A perfect location for families, local schools perform with above-average results.
To ensure that Faringdon remains an attractive and green place in which to live and work, the town councils Neighbourhood Plan is in the process of being mapped out right up to 2031.
Plans include creating more jobs and promoting tourist attractions, all of which will work together to boost the local economy.
