Why Move to Dereham
Dereham, otherwise called East Dereham, is a market town in Norfolk with origins that can be traced as far back as Saxon times. Norwich city sits about 15 miles west of Dereham and the popular town of King’s Lynn is 25 miles east.
Often confused with West Dereham, a small village some thirty miles to the west, East Dereham is much bigger, the fifth largest town in the county of Norfolk. The name of the town originates from an association in bygone days with deer hunting, and it was historically a place where deer were easily found and still are today.
A bustling town well known for its easy access to local tourist attractions located in the surrounding Norfolk countryside, Dereham has a good, regular bus service alongside convenient road and rail connections. The main A47 offers a direct link to the towns of Norwich and Kings Lynn.
Dereham provides a wide range of organisations and leisure facilities for locals and for the many visitors who flock to the area during the summer months. There are several sports clubs, a swathe of great restaurants, pubs, hotels, and well-tended public parks. An ideal place for a family to live and thrive!
There is a lively cultural scene with a programme of events and performances held at the Dereham Memorial Hall, ranging from meditation to music and drama. When it comes to retail, Dereham supports many of the smaller villages surrounding it with plenty of opportunities to shop locally at a range of high street names and some quaint independents.
Plus, regular markets are held every Tuesday and Friday in Market Place and along Church Street. Although encompassed by green areas, Dereham also poses the opportunity to visit several well-known coastal locations such as Cromer, Great Yarmouth, and Lowestoft to name a few.
Schools & Education
If you want to ensure your child attends a good school, Dereham has some solid choices.
