Why Move to Dagenham?
Located in Greater London, Dagenham is a predominantly residential Thames side area, known for its now-declining industrial activity, including the once mighty Ford Dagenham car manufacturing plant.
The town is surprisingly rural in parts and its open spaces offer residents a village-like atmosphere.
In comparison to the hustle and bustle of many areas in London, Dagenham is often favoured by older residents and families who prefer to avoid the excitement that boroughs closer to the city centre tend to have.
In recent years, increasingly more prospective purchasers are looking again at just how much Dagenham offers in the way of lifestyle and amenities.
The most obvious benefit is the excellent transport links. Dagenham is in Zone 5 and is served by the District Line at Becontree, Dagenham Heathway, and Dagenham East stations.
The second is the local property prices which, by London standards are very affordable.
The town has a number of historic sites, a last reminder of its life as a rural village many years ago. The 14th Century Parish Church of St Margaret, and the grand and imposing Eastbury Manor House are both well worth a visit, as is nearby Barking Abbey.
Today all sorts of improvements are in the pipeline. New homes, offices and a cultural centre are all part of Barking & Dagenham council’s long-term plans.
Whilst planning permission has just been approved to unite some of London’s largest markets. Smithfield Market, along with Billingsgate and New Spitalfields markets, are all expected to move to the site of an old power station in Barking Reach, Dagenham in the next few years.
Already providing ample amenities for life, work, and leisure, moving forward, the borough has much more to look forward to in the future as well.

Dagenham Property
Following WW2 one of the world’s largest public housing developments began in Dagenham. In a short space of time, over an area of four-square miles, as many as 100,000 homes were constructed.
Today, the town enjoys a busy housing market offering new buyers a varied selection of homes for sale across the town and the wider borough.
Many homes hark back to the 1950’s and a substantial number of homes are semi-detached dwellings.
Despite the fact that Dagenham forms part of Greater London, property prices are substantially lower here.
What you would expect to pay to purchase a one-bedroom flat in the city centre, you can afford a three-bedroom home in Dagenham.
Continuing to expand, first-time buyers have seen the potential here too and are snapping up the hundreds of newly built trendy apartments.
