Many of the town’s residents travel to work in the larger towns of Bristol, Swindon, Bath, and the city of London.
High Street and Market Place is where most of Chippenham’s retailers reside and it is the home of two main shopping centres: Gate Shopping Centre and the Borough Parade Shopping Centre.

The town has a range of recreational pursuits to suit everyone.
Adults new to the area will be delighted to know that Chippenham became a Purple Flag town in 2016 and is one of the few market towns in the UK to win this prestigious national award. The award is presented for the safety, vibrancy and choice of its nightlife. What is more, it has retained this status for three years in a row.
For a family orientated occasion, the annual Chippenham Food Festival. It is a widely acclaimed event that attracts food loving visitors from all over the country and was established to showcase the best of the area’s food and drink produce, and the people who grow, rear and harvest it.
Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre is full of interesting information about the people and history of Chippenham and North Wiltshire. Home to a wide collection of artefacts, documents, maps, and archaeological discoveries.
Three main parks in the town Pewsham Park, John Coles Park and Stainers Way give residents access to open spaces where children can play or adults exercise. Grassy areas with plenty of kiddie friendly equipment such as slides, swings and climbing frames are available.
The beautiful River Avon is a major feature of Chippenham, it meanders through surrounding countryside and the town centre itself. Running alongside the river are some lovely walks and planned cycle ways.
Baydons Wood is just over a hectare in size and was created in 2000 as a millennium wood to provide local people with a wood to enjoy close to their homes. It also provides a sanctuary for birds, plants, and wildlife. The wood It is a mix of broadleaf trees, predominantly oak, ash and field maple.
