The town is located in the large borough of Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Castleford’s history dates to Roman times, with archaeological evidence pointing to modern day Castleford being built upon a Roman army settlement which was called Lagentium, thought to mean ‘The Place of the Swordsmen’.

An all age attraction, Hemsworth Water Park offers visitors plenty to do all day. From building sandcastles and jumping, sliding, and swinging in the outdoor adventure playground to water activities such as its colourful pedalo’s perfect for a delightful boat ride around the main lake. Other activities include a miniature railway and fishing.
Keen golfers have the opportunity to try several golf courses in the area, with Pontefract District and Whitwood Golf Clubs being just a short drive away from the town.
