    Why Move to Bridgwater?

Classed as a small market town and with a population of around 42,000, Bridgwater sits in the southwest of the UK within the county of Somerset. Conveniently linked to surrounding areas via both the motorway and rail links, similar many smaller towns in the region, residents living here enjoy a strong sense of community.

Bridgwater is located 11 miles from Taunton, 18 miles from the seaside resort of Weston-Super-Mare, and 37 miles from Bristol. The area provides residents with easy access via road or rail to both town, country, and coastal settings. It is also surrounded by beautiful countryside including the Mendips, Quantock Hills, and Somerset Levels. Sitting at the mouth of the River Parrett, in bygone days, Bridgwater was quite a busy port.

The town still retains its old quays, a canal link to Taunton, and a reputation for industrial enterprise. Its market status is also still evident, boasting the largest livestock market in the southwest. Plenty of residents commute to Taunton and Bristol for work but as Somerset’s leading industrial town, Bridgwater has a busy economy of its own.

The arrival of the nuclear power station Hinkley Point C has created employment opportunities along with a boost to the whole area’s profile. In recent years, the town has also benefitted from investment from well-known companies such as Morrisons and DHL in the distribution sector and EDF Energy along with plenty of smaller new businesses.

Whilst this quiet town has not had the best reputation in the past, Bridgwater is fast building a bright future. Thanks to the efforts of the “Town Team”, a group of local shops and businesses working to promote Bridgwater, along with some hard work from passionate residents, the town has been much improved, and locals are now reaping the benefits.
