Why move to Borehamwood?
Borehamwood is a post-war commuter town located in the county of Hertfordshire which lies just 9 miles from St Albans and 12 miles from central London. Borehamwood has experienced somewhat of a population boom in recent times in large part owing to its affordable housing prices and excellent rail connections to the capital (25 minutes to London St Pancras by train).
The town centre is modern and accessible with a high street which has undergone somewhat of an image overhaul in recent years, moving away from pound and betting shops towards bakeries, clothes retailers and delicatessens. There is a small shopping centre which encompasses a two-storey Tesco and a redeveloped shopping park, with many popular pubs, restaurants and cafes.
The nearby village of Elstree is home to the famous Elstree Studios, which had its heyday in the 1920s and 30s but is still home to various British classics, including TV’s Inspector Morse and the soap opera, Eastenders. With lots of tidy semis and terraced houses dotted around old ‘London style’ markets it can sometimes feel like you’re walking around on set. Don’t worry though, the neighbourhood is a lot less turbulent than the one depicted on the BBC and with great local schools it makes for a great place to raise a family.
Schools & Education
Borehamwood has a number of excellent primary and secondary schools in and around the town. Cowley Hill School and Woodlands Hill Primary School have both received good Ofsted reports.
Secondary schools include Hertswood Academy which was graded as good by Ofsted at its last inspection. Colleges include, Elstree University Technical College and Yavneh College. Independent schools include Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ and Girls’ schools.
More information on researching and finding schools and colleges the Borehamwood area is available on the Schools Guide.

It starts at Elstree & Borehamwood railway station, where it links with the London Loop, and goes mainly through farmland and parks and is a popular pastime for serious hikers.
