Bishop’s Stortford lies on the River Stort, a market town in the affluent East Herts district of Hertfordshire. Oozing history at every turn it is an extremely attractive and accessible place to live. Being just east of the M11, and sandwiched between London and Cambridge, it is a perfect location from which to commute.

In these modern times, residents have access to a well organised centre offering a mix of known high street brands a few individual stores and plenty of choice regarding eateries. Bishops Stortford was once home to Cecil Rhodes. He went on to become the world’s most famous diamond dealer and owner of De Beers, after whom Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), was named in 1895.
Despite its rich history, this busy little town does not have its feet continually in the past. There are 2,500 new homes in the pipeline being constructed by a consortium of builders; Bovis, Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon and Kier have all managed to gain planning permission.
Over the next few years Bishops Stortford is set to experience a rapidly expanding population, however, incorporated in these huge plans are the provision of a new primary school, a community centre and sports pavilion and other area enhancing projects adding to the towns already popular appeal.

Bishop’s Stortford follows the English school’s model of primary school, secondary school, and further education college.
There are 13 primary and 5 secondary schools (two of which are single sex). The town does not have any further education colleges for post-16 education, as all schools in Hertfordshire have sixth forms.
Highly regarded schools which have been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted include St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School and St Mary’s Catholic Secondary School.

Harlow College is 23 minutes by rail. The college is distinguished by its success rates and its Journalism Centre, which it has operated since 1964.

Bishop’s Stortford Property
The town’s architecture reflects its history with period cottages, Victorian and Edwardian terraces, and more modern houses dispersed throughout.
