Why Move to Banbury?
An important centre for wool trading in the 13th Century, Banbury developed into a small industrial hub after the Oxford Canal was opened in 1790.
Famously mentioned in the traditional nursery rhyme “Ride a Cockhorse to Banbury Cross” and as being the home of the delicious Banbury Cake.
Banbury has evolved into a highly active town, alongside the river Cherwell, offering a modern lifestyle but also embracing its industrial past, still evident in its many old buildings and charming winding streets.
The town’s location makes it not just a nice place to visit but a place in which to put down roots especially if you are moving with a family.
Banbury is a significant commercial and retail centre for the surrounding area of north Oxfordshire and the southern parts of Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
The town centre provides ample shopping opportunities in a safe pedestrianised area, with a range of high street retailers and some small independents.
The well-known Bicester Discount Shopping Village is just a short drive south of Banbury.
The surrounding Oxfordshire countryside is known for its picturesque landscapes and charming villages.
The beautiful Oxfordshire Cotswolds is a short journey away and you can whizz into the capital when the fancy takes you, a journey by train of around 50 minutes.
Having Birmingham and Heathrow Airports located both approximately an hour away makes booking a holiday or business trip a cinch.
You may well be one of the many who fall in love with this lovely little town.

Things to do in Banbury
When you get some free time, it is good to get out and about and enjoy what Banbury has to offer in the way of entertainment.
Here are a few of the local attractions:
Banbury Cross: This iconic cross is a historic monument and a symbol of the town. It’s mentioned in the nursery rhyme “Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross.” While the cross itself might not be extravagant, its historical significance makes it a point of interest.
Broughton Castle: Located just outside Banbury, Broughton Castle is a well-preserved medieval manor house surrounded by a moat. It offers guided tours and beautiful gardens, making it a great spot for history enthusiasts and those who appreciate architecture and landscaping.
Tooley’s Boatyard: This historic boatyard on the Oxford Canal provides insights into the history of canal transportation. You can take guided tours and learn about the processes involved in maintaining and repairing canal boats.
Banbury Museum: The museum offers exhibitions about the town’s history, local culture, and historical artefacts. It’s a great place to learn about Banbury’s past and its connections to the region.
Castle Quay Shopping Centre: If you’re interested in shopping and modern amenities, this shopping centre in the heart of the town offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options.
Banbury Old Town: The old town area features charming streets, historic architecture, and a mix of independent shops, cafes, and pubs. It’s a pleasant area to explore on foot.
Spiceball Park: A local park with green spaces, playgrounds, and sports facilities. It’s a nice place for a leisurely walk or outdoor activities.
The Mill Arts Centre: This venue hosts a variety of cultural events including theatre performances, live music, comedy shows, and art exhibitions.
Banbury Property
Although Banbury offers buyers a great selection of homes, it is the iconic gingerbread-coloured local stone houses which are among the favourites.
Elegant homes from the Regency and Victorian periods are also highly prized and mainly based in the town centre.
As Banbury’s population has grown new build developments have sprung up towards the outer limits of the town and there are currently a number of such sites in various stages of construction.
The cost of the average home in Banbury is a tad over the National average but still, these values are fantastic compared to many areas surrounding the town and better still in contrast with London’s ridiculously expensive prices.
