Many of the area’s primaries are “good”, says Education Scotland, with North Muirton and Goodlyburn “good”, St John’s RC and Kinnoull “very good”, and Moncreiffe “very good”.
There is also a variety of secondaries with the Perth Academy & High School having been rated as “good” and St John’s RC (Roman Catholic) school “very good”.
Further and higher education are both available through Perth College UHI, one of the largest partners in the University of the Highlands. It runs a network of learning centres across the area, in Blairgowrie, Crieff, Kinross and Pathways in Perth. It also owns AST (Air Service Training) which delivers a range of aircraft engineering courses.
Things to do in Perth

A foodie destination, Perth is recognised as one of Scotland’s premier culinary centres, renowned for its fresh local produce, delicious seafood, distinctive real ales, and unique whisky distillery tours.
One of the top visitor attractions in Scotland, history buffs will want to visit the Scone Palace near Perth. It is the original home of the Stone of Destiny and the site of the coronations of the Kings of Scots.
The stunning parklands of Scone Palace are also home to Perth Racecourse. Scotland’s most northerly horse- racing track is located just 3 miles out of town. A favourite day out, open 365 days a year it plays host to over 120 events and is home to one of the best conferencing facilities in Perthshire.
Lochleven Castle located on a small island, was where Mary Queen of Scots was once a guest but her former host turned her jailer in 1567. She eventually escaped, never to see Scotland again. The tower house where Mary was held is one of Scotland’s oldest, built in the 1300s.
It is an incredibly interesting place to visit and discover more. It also has some lovely walks where you can roam the quiet island at your leisure and soak up the peaceful setting.

Property prices
Easy access to the motorway network, combined with limited scope for large scale new build development has contributed to keeping Perth property prices on the high side compared to other towns in the region.
In 2020, the average cost for a home stands at £218,615 in Perth compared to the overall average for Scotland of £200,100.
You will find a good mix of property styles in and around the town. In the grid-plan of the old town and fringes you will find stately Georgian town houses and early Victorian homes, especially around areas of The North Inch or The South Inch. There are also a number of larger homes on the market which have been converted into bed and breakfast accommodation.
With regard to cost, flats sell for between £29,950 – £295,000. Detached homes start from £195,000. If you have a healthy budget, there are a number of large stunning 5,6 and 7 bedroomed homes for sale some in rural locations, however you can expect to pay from £600,000 for one of these properties.
